Fines and Traffic School
Fines and Traffic School
You usually get a traffic ticket when you are pulled over. California has one of the highest fine rates among the states. Not only a speeding ticket, for example, will cost you a lot, but it will raise your vehicle insurance considerably as well. For more serious violations, like drunk driving or hit and runs resulted in bodily injury or death, you might even face jail time.
You can always plead guilty and pay your fine. By going to traffic school you may be able to prevent the citation to be recorded on your driver's license as well. Having too many points on your license in a certain amount of time will end in suspension of your driver's license by DMV, so make sure you keep your record as clean as you can.
You also can plead not guilty and go to court to contest your traffic ticket. But there is always the risk of losing in your trial. Failure to appear at the court is risky as well. In that case, a FTA warrant might be issued in your name. If you are pulled over for any reason, you can get arrested and sent to jail immediately.
You can get your license suspended due to a lot of violations. DUI/DWI, hit and run, reckless driving and having excessive points on your record are just some of them. Usually you can go to a hearing before your license is revoked and fight for your driving privileges. A hearing, on the other hand, would not be a substitute for a court trial.
