Elimination of 12-hour Traffic School Programs in California
Elimination of 12-hour Traffic School Programs in California
The option of 12-hour driving school was designed to help you restore your driving privileges or remove accumulated points as a repeat offender. Recent legislation has ceased offerings in California for this 12-hour driving school. It is not so easy now to remove points or reinstate your driver's license after you receive a second speeding ticket in Los Angeles. Many second offenders, within the 18-month grace period allowed under the old law, used this 12-hour traffic school to eliminate the point added to their license after a traffic infraction. The changes to the legislation will allow accumulated points to appear on your driver's license and will be accessible to your automobile insurance company for review of a rate increase or dismissal. Points for a speeding or red light ticket in Los Angeles will no longer be removed due to the termination of the 12-hour TVS program.
If you have completed your first 8-hour traffic school and had points removed, a second infraction will not be eligible for dismissal. The current laws allow accumulated points to appear on your driver's license for a period of three years. More serious offenses that involve high rates of speed, reckless driving, or drugs and alcohol increase points by two or more and are not eligible for removal in a DMV sponsored TVS program.
For a repeat offender, the only way to avoid point increases and a license suspension is to fight a ticket in court. Understanding the law is not enough to convince a judge to dismiss your ticket. The facts surrounding your driving history, points, prior suspensions and past driving school completion programs will be presented in court. Our Los Angeles traffic ticket attorney knows the legal verbiage needed to persuade the judge to make the decision to dismiss your ticket.
The importance of excellent representation in court should never be underestimated. The laws are constantly updated and legal loopholes are being closed. Our experienced traffic ticket lawyer in Los Angeles knows what it takes to help you beat your charge in court and may prevent you from receiving a suspended license or paying the high costs of traffic tickets.
