California New Traffic Laws 2012
Every January 1st is not just a celebration of the New Year, it is a time when all of the new laws in California come into effect. Many of these laws are geared those that are out on the road, and without thoroughly understanding them, drivers may be facing all of the fines, fees, insurance increases, and other penalties that are associated with traffic tickets. This is why it is important to take a look at these laws and give a wide berth to any traffic violations.DUI charges in California are notoriously severe, but new changes to sobriety checkpoints have taken away at least some of the sting. Those that are stopped at a checkpoint and their only offense is not having a valid license will no longer have their vehicle impounded for 30 days as a result. If a driver is convicted of 3 or more DUIs though, the courts can now suspend a license for as long as 10 years for every conviction.
For those with children or who are transporting children in their vehicle, there have been changes made to the laws governing child safety seats. Children must now ride in a car seat or booster seat until the age of 8 or until they reach a height of 4’9”.
The penalties for reckless driving in California have also seen a makeover for the 2012 year. Drivers that are convicted of reckless driving may now apply for a provisional license under certain conditions. These include a compelling reason for driving, such as work or school, and the installation of an ignition interlock device.
If you or someone you know has fallen victim to any of these changes in laws, call Mr. Ticket to steer clear of fines, keeps points off of your license, and keep on the road.
